Chinese Wedding Invitation Wording Template - How to Title Bride and Groom

When it comes to Chinese wordings for wedding invitations, a lot of people have no idea on where to start. Especially how to address oneself as 長男 // 次男 // 幼男 //  小兒....

Here is an easy guidance to help you...

Traditional Chinese Wedding Invitations use a special format.
They are read from top to down, right to left.
They are also versed so that the bride and groom's parents are the official hosts.
Here is an example:

Take note of following etiquette: 
1. Specify the date of the wedding in both gregorian/solar and Chinese/lunar calendar form.
2. List the day of the week in parenthesis.
3. Precede the bride and groom's names with their birth order among siblings.

For example: Eldest son Second daughter Youngest son
4. The characters for "welcome" should be in larger font than rest of text.

Ranking amongst Siblings: Here are some terms that are commonly used on Chinese wedding invitations:

小兒 : refers to the only child in the family 

小兒 : ALSO refers to Groom has no male siblings (can have sisters/ older or younger)

小女:  refers to the only child in the family 小女: ALSO refers to Bride who has no female siblings   (can have brothers/ older or younger)

長男 // 次男 // 幼男 : oldest son / 2nd son / youngest son長女 // 次女 // 幼女 :oldest daughter / 2nd daughter / youngest daughter

For the Groom, he just need to arrange the sequence among himself and his brothers, and do not need to take into account of his sisters if he has any. This applies to the Bride too.

E.g. He is the oldest son, with 1 younger sister and 1 younger brother = 長男

E.g. He is the only son, with 1 older sister = he will still be referred as 小兒 (do not take into account of sisters)

Bespoke Wedding Invites for Tammy + Billy

Concept
Tammy and Billy were looking for a design that is modern, colourful yet traditional. I also included some silver ferns to symbolise their time spent together in New Zealand before moving back to Hong Kong. 

The floral patterns I illustrated were also used as the backdrop for their wedding photographs! 

Method
Bespoke wedding invite design was printed using LETTERPRESS method onto textured paper. (English message on one side and Chinese message on the other side)

Dutch Skyline + Hong Kong Skyline

Concept 
Carlijn and Christiaan are originally from Holland and were getting married in Hong Kong, hence the subtle combination of the Hong Kong and Dutch skyline.

The red cherry blossom represents the happiness for their wedding!
Method

Bespoke Wedding Invite Design for a Hungarian Couple

Here is my wedding invite design for Peter and Szilvia ...
Peter and Szilvia are Hungarians who live in London. They are going to have their weddings in Budapest, their home town.
For the wedding invites, they want to have two suitcases, one BIG one small, that symbolises them. And the international driving stickers represent their guests traveling from around the world to their wedding in Budapest.

Bespoke Birthday Invitation Design

It has been ages since I last updated my blog!!! I have done various types of artwork but I just have little time to do update it! Here is a design I did today - an invite for a birthday taking place in beautiful Holland.

Bespoke Handprinted Wedding Invitations for Lisa + Paul

I have been really busy these days and have no time at all to update my blog!
I m taking make up classes (4 weeks intensive!), surface pattern design, wedding invite commission, designing a company's logo ... Life is so much fun!

Lisa and Paul held their wedding at a beautiful garden in England. For their invitations, they wanted to include love birds, a lot of floral patterns with a rustic and English garden feel to it (symbolized by the Tea pot!) They were also very keen to reflect some organic, handmade elements, therefore, I screen printed each invitation by hand.

During my holiday, besides drawing the lovely scenery of Amsterdam, I also managed to finish working on a wedding invite commission! All invites were hand printed by myself!

Bespoke Wedding Invite Design for M+M

Here is a wedding card design I did for good buddies - Miyako and Mathias last year.
I found the image hiding in an old file today, thought I would post it!

The idea behind is to combine:
Miyako with her Japanese and Dutch backgrounds (she was brought up in Utrecht) AND her passion in photography
