Travel Drawings - Berlin August 2011

Berlin: 01-04 August

Thanks Jon for a fun, cultural and artistic trip to Berlin. It was great fun playing blind drawing (drawing and not looking at the paper) and cycling around the city.
I am glad I learnt a lot about the holocaust which I didn't in high school !

Bespoke Wedding Invite Design for a Hungarian Couple

Here is my wedding invite design for Peter and Szilvia ...
Peter and Szilvia are Hungarians who live in London. They are going to have their weddings in Budapest, their home town.
For the wedding invites, they want to have two suitcases, one BIG one small, that symbolises them. And the international driving stickers represent their guests traveling from around the world to their wedding in Budapest.

Bespoke Birthday Invitation Design

It has been ages since I last updated my blog!!! I have done various types of artwork but I just have little time to do update it! Here is a design I did today - an invite for a birthday taking place in beautiful Holland.

This is the brief from Sophie :) (and my silly poem)

15 hours of Surface Pattern Design Course, London

Do you know that there are four types of repeats ? Block; Half drop; Brick and Mirror !
If you are not sure what I am talking about but interested to find out more, I would highly recommend the Surface Pattern Design course at the City Lit, London.

Please (!!!) make sure the course is taught by Rachel Gornall. Besides a well structured course outline, Rachel is inspiring, passionate, super helpful, dedicated and always full of energy! One of those great teachers who would stay behind class to help and discuss with students if we have any queries.

Fortunately, I met a bunch of creative friends in the class too! They all have interesting careers, from art tour guide at the Courtauld Gallery, art restorer, Thomas the tank engine licensing lady, editor at ELLE deco, a girl who owns her own ceramics cafe  ...

I am amazed that in 15 hours (3 hrs per class, 5 classes in total), we all learnt how to design, create, form and PRINT our first pattern design, all from scratch!

Here are some snapshots of my work and my classmates' work:

Kalo Makes Patterns!

Here are some experimental work for my surface pattern design course!
My theme is 'circus' and I am particularly interested in the movements of acrobats!
Human forms are just incredible!
This design is just the beginning. More to be developed ... I am thinking adding some hola hoops ... the final work will be printed on papers and fabric, which I will update you later here, stay tuned!

Bespoke Handprinted Wedding Invitations for Lisa + Paul

I have been really busy these days and have no time at all to update my blog!
I m taking make up classes (4 weeks intensive!), surface pattern design, wedding invite commission, designing a company's logo ... Life is so much fun!

Lisa and Paul held their wedding at a beautiful garden in England. For their invitations, they wanted to include love birds, a lot of floral patterns with a rustic and English garden feel to it (symbolized by the Tea pot!) They were also very keen to reflect some organic, handmade elements, therefore, I screen printed each invitation by hand.
