It was my first time selling in a 'public space', I must admit that I was a bit nervous at the beginning but as soon as Emma and I had set up the stall, I felt much more relaxed. (Having two bottles of Hoegaarden helped!) I would do this again as it was such a fun experience, I met loads of arty people, I had my portrait done, I learned how to knit a flower brooch, and I bought quite a few items from the other stalls too!
Special special thanks to Daniel and Stephen who helped out with the house moving so I could do this market! You are the best! And special thanks to Cherri, Eugene, Tom and Richard for coming to support me! I am really touched !
Here are some snapshots of the day !

Come join me at + New Gallery Jumble Stall on 19th FEB 2011
I have been busy packing my stuff for the house move this coming Saturday. It is crazy to see how much stuff I've been accumulating over the years! I have probably donated 10 bags of stuff to the charities! Sometimes I thought if you throw everything away from me, I probably wouldn't have noticed.
A sneak peek of some of my hand-printed cards that will be sold at the store:
I have also been busy preparing for New Gallery Jumble Stall, which also takes place on the the same Saturday 19th FEB ! This is very exciting as it will be my first experience selling in an arty space! I am sharing the space with Emma Cheng, a very talented printmaker/ illustrator whom I met at my print studio. It is great to find someone who shares similar passion in life!
At the New Gallery Jumble Stall there will be loads of lovely craft work clothing shoppings workshops and a lot to eat and drink !!!
The key idea of this jumble is that it is environmentally friendly!
Work sold here fits this ethos and stuff you can buy are made with materials that are cleverly sourced.
If you are wondering what to do this Saturday, please come along!
I would love to meet you there!

New Year New Make
Happy belated Chinese New Year, folks!
In case you are not aware, 3rd Feb is the first day of the year for us Chinese people! It is a huge day, like Christmas in the western world. When I was young, my huge family (nearly 40 relatives on my father's side and 30 on my mum's side) would spend at least a week celebrating it. Similar to Christmas, it is all about being with family, eating, eating and eating while lying around and not doing much. Since I don't have any Chinese relatives in London, so I spent my first day of the Rabbit year doing things that cheer me the most - hand making things! Luckily, the sun was brightly out, so I quickly got my screen print kit ready to do some printing.

Kalo playing with ... n u m b e r s ... 1 2 3 4 5
I have been ill in bed for two days perhaps it was the food I ate in Borough Market (I suspect the yummy but evil oyster!) or the cold I caught during a long walk along the Thames or simply the greyish weather in London. But today, I decided to get out of my bed and do something - to play with numbers 1 2 3 4 5 ...
Last Friday, I very very randomly went to a lovely children shop Three Potato Four that sells cute children's items in Newington Green and very very randomly had a good conversation with the shop owner Genna, who kindly advised me that birthday cards especially with numbers generally sell really well in her shop. So I took her advice and created a new set of birthday cards today!
I did not want to just stick a number onto a birthday card design, because that is just too literal. So instead, I created some animals out of numbers. Similar to the Valentine's card designs, I use colourful papers, handcut each design, glued the ribbons and handwrite 'happy birthday' on each card.
My favourite one is the green rabbit with pink ribbon! For my next project, I might turn numbers into different types of transportations ...
(After I posted this... *please help*) I had a chat with my friend about these designs, she commented that they look rather too plain and simple and more colours are needed, especially when these cards are for young children. And for her, as a buyer, whether the final work is handcut-finished or not does not make a huge impact on the buying decision (for me as a maker, it feels like handcutting the artwork adds value to the card). It is always good to hear some really honest opinion because it is hard for me to think more thoroughly as an outsider! I look at my artwork all the time and I also tended to make things that please my own eyes. So anyone who can bring in some 'fresh eyes' point of view, you are very very welcome to drop me a line. Thanks!
